Speaking during a meeting with members of the Umana al-Rusul (Trustees of the Messengers) Congress Secretariat at the Astan Quds Razavi office in Qom on Monday, Dr. Salim Jasani emphasized that the legacy of the late Hezbollah Secretary-General transcends geographical boundaries and demands a global academic response.
A Global, Multilingual Academic Mandate
Dr. Jasani stated that the congress honoring Martyr Nasrallah—who was assassinated in a massive Israeli airstrike on Beirut’s southern suburbs—holds a unique weight compared to other academic gatherings. He called for the collection of research and viewpoints from scholars across Europe, Africa, and Latin America.
“Martyr Nasrallah’s intellectual and jihadist framework has crossed regional borders and taken on international dimensions,” Jasani said. “This congress should not be limited to Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon. We must utilize a multilingual approach and virtual sessions with foreign professors to ensure the approach remains strictly academic and global.”
Honoring the Pillars of Shia Scholarship
Jasani praised the Umana al-Rusul Secretariat for its role in reviving the works and honoring the scholars of the Shia world, noting that such efforts foster greater cohesion between Islamic seminaries and Iraqi universities.
“Honoring the great scholars of Shia Islam is a duty, and in Iraq—especially in holy Najaf—various commemorations for the martyred leader of the Resistance have been held, though these represent the least of what is owed to this great figure,” he added.
Kufa University’s Strategic Offer
Highlighting the robust academic infrastructure of the Faculty of Jurisprudence—which houses specialized departments in Jurisprudence, Quranic Sciences, Hadith, Islamic Doctrine, and Comparative Religions—Jasani formally extended an invitation for the congress to be held at the University of Kufa.
He further revealed his membership in a key Iraqi ministerial committee and a body affiliated with the Prime Minister’s Office, stating that these channels could be leveraged to engage theology faculties across Iraq and coordinate with the revered Shia shrines for broader support.
Background: The Umana al-Rusul Congress
The second International Umana al-Rusul Congress is being organized in cooperation with Iranian and Iraqi religious and cultural institutions, including the Management Center of Islamic Seminaries and the Holy Shrines of Iraq. The event aims to examine the scientific, and political dimensions of Martyr Nasrallah’s leadership.
Preparatory national and international pre-conferences are scheduled to take place throughout the current year, culminating in a major gathering designed to solidify the academic study of the Axis of Resistance as a legitimate and enduring field of scholarly inquiry.
