Held under the theme “The Quran: Light and Guidance for the Nation”, the ceremony was attended by Egypt’s Ambassador to the Philippines, Nader Zaki; Chairman of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, Sabuddin N. Abdurahim; as well as a number of national officials, religious leaders, and diplomatic representatives.
The competition features 35 finalists (17 females and 18 males) from across the Philippines. The first-place winner will qualify to participate in the International Quran Recitation and Memorization Competition in Malaysia, scheduled for next October.
Al-Azhari emphasized that such events play a vital role in promoting moderate values and reinforcing the principles of guidance and mercy embodied in the Holy Quran. He also highlighted their importance in strengthening cultural and religious ties among nations.
The Minister further noted that the Holy Quran encourages the development of humanity and the advancement of society, promoting values such as productivity, reform, and constructive work. He stressed that all religions share a common message of goodness, peace, and social stability. He added that national unity is a cornerstone of strong and stable nations, and that coexistence among citizens, regardless of their beliefs, is essential for progress. He underscored shared human values such as compassion, love, and respect for human dignity.
Al-Azhari also expressed his appreciation to the Chairman of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, commending his efforts to serve Muslim communities, promote coexistence and mutual understanding, and strengthen international cooperation in a spirit of patriotism. He described these efforts as a model for supporting social stability.
