Mourning Ceremony for Martyrdom of Ayatollah Khamenei Held at Votanikos Mosque in Athens

The event, which included prayers and a doxology, was organized by the Shiite Muslim Community of Greece.

The Votanikos Mosque, inaugurated in 2020, is Athens’ first official mosque since the Greek Revolution. For decades before its opening, Athens was the only European capital without a formal mosque, forcing the Muslim community to use unofficial prayer spaces.
