A large number of diplomats walk out of UN meeting as Netanyahu begins speech

Many diplomats walked out of the UN chamber at the start of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to the UN General Assembly on Friday.

They left in long lines in protest as the session began in New York around 9 am (1300 GMT) on Friday morning.

Due to Israel’s aggressive military campaign in the Gaza Strip, an increasing number of Western allies are distancing themselves from the Israeli government.

The United Kingdom, France and Canada recently recognized Palestine as a state.
