Hojatoleslam Abbasi: Islamic Revolution the Only True Alternative to Material Civilization

President of Al-Mustafa International University, Hojatoleslam Ali Abbasi, has said that the only true discursive and civilizational rival to material civilization is the discourse of pure Islam, embodied today in the Islamic Revolution.

Addressing international participants of the Allama Mirza Naeini Congress during their visit to Al-Mustafa University in Qom, Hojatoleslam Abbasi praised seminaries for nurturing influential scholars throughout history. He described Allama Naeini as a shining example of the seminary’s intellectual legacy and expressed hope that Al-Mustafa University would continue this tradition.

Highlighting the university’s global reach, Hojatoleslam Abbasi said tens of thousands of students from more than 130 countries have been educated at Al-Mustafa International University, realizing the vision of earlier scholars to spread the teachings of pure Islam and the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT) worldwide.

He noted that Al-Mustafa University maintains academic cooperation with hundreds of international institutions, including joint programs with non-Muslim universities such as Yunnan University in China.

The senior cleric emphasized the growing need to promote the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt globally, saying much more must be done to meet contemporary challenges.

Referring to what he called a “global civilizational confrontation,” Hojatoleslam Abbasi said the modern world is witnessing a clash between two discourses: the material civilization of domination and the discourse of divine values represented by pure Islam.

“Western material civilization does not consider any ideology its true rival except the discourse of pure Islam and the Islamic Revolution,” he said. “This is the root cause of the West’s hostility toward Muslims and the Islamic world.”

He further cited remarks by the prime minister of the Zionist regime, who has described that entity as a defender of Western civilization, saying this reflects the ongoing civilizational conflict that defines today’s global landscape.

Hojatoleslam Abbasi concluded by calling for renewed vision and responsibility within seminaries to help advance the Islamic world’s civilizational mission. “Like the Islamic Revolution, Al-Mustafa University views itself as part of the movement toward building a global Islamic civilization,” he said.
