The statement, released on the heels of recent tensions involving remarks by Western leaders, condemns what it described as “audacious and dangerous threats” to the authority of the Islamic world, calling them an attack not just on a religious leader, but on Islam itself and the dignity of the Muslim Ummah.
“At a time when the forces of disbelief are confronting Islam with increasing hostility, we are witnessing unprecedented boldness in targeting the leadership and spiritual authority of the Islamic world,” the statement read.
Fatwa Viewed as Turning Point for Muslim Unity
The Assembly praised the clear and decisive stance of the Marja’iyyah—the high-ranking religious authorities in Qom and Najaf—as a defining moment in defense of Islamic dignity and called for widespread support of the fatwa, which deemed such threats as hostile acts against Islam and its leadership.
“This historic and sensitive fatwa has once again demonstrated the moral and religious responsibility of the Shia authority to defend the sanctities of Islam. The enemies must know that any assault on the leadership of the Ummah will be met with firm resistance,” the statement continued.
Call for Global Muslim Solidarity and Resistance
The Assembly also condemned what it described as ongoing oppression in Palestine and other parts of the Muslim world, linking the threats against Ayatollah Khamenei to broader campaigns of aggression against Islamic values and leadership.
It called on Muslims across the world—scholars, nations, and youth—to unite in spiritual and practical resistance, urging them to confront the Zionist regime and its supporters, particularly the United States.
“We call upon all free and courageous nations, especially Muslims, to rise for the protection of humanity and the defense of Islam. The usurping Zionist regime and its main sponsor, the American government, must be resisted for their crimes against the oppressed and their aggression toward the sanctities of the Muslim world.”
In conclusion, the statement declared that such trials are a test of the Ummah’s vigilance and faith, quoting the Qur’anic verse:
‘Victory is from Allah, and a near triumph is at hand.’
