The statement comes amid the continued siege and humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The Society warned that the Muslim Ummah is facing a historic test of conscience and responsibility.
The full text of the statement is as follows:
In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, and peace and blessings be upon Muhammad, the Messenger of God, and upon his pure family and noble companions.
Citing verse 75 of Surah al-Nisa — “And what is [the matter] with you that you fight not in the cause of Allah and [for] the oppressed among men, women, and children who say, ‘Our Lord, take us out of this city of oppressive people and appoint for us from Yourself a protector and a helper?’” — the statement calls on all Islamic scholars and educators to act urgently.
“Scholars of the Islamic world, respected professors of seminaries and universities: come to the aid of the oppressed people of Gaza — an hour later may be too late.”
The Society emphasized that today, the Islamic world is facing a great divine test. While the people of Gaza are enduring a brutal blockade and systematic killing, some governments have not only failed to condemn these crimes but have actively supported the Zionist regime. “The world is witnessing disbelief united against Islam,” the statement said.
Quoting the Quran’s warnings about hostility from the People of the Book, the Society referred to verses from Surah al-Ma’idah, including:
- “You will surely find the most intense of the people in animosity toward the believers [to be] the Jews and those who associate others with Allah.” (5:82)
- “O you who believe! Do not take the Jews and Christians as allies; they are [in fact] allies of one another. And whoever among you allies with them — then indeed, he is [one] of them.” (5:51)
The Society warned that silence in the face of this aggression is not merely inaction, but betrayal. “Every silent Muslim today betrays the Quran and strikes at the roots of Islam,” the letter reads.
Silence Is Complicity — Scholars Must Fulfill Their Duty
The statement also recalled the words of Amir al-Mu’minin, Imam Ali (peace be upon him), condemning the scholars’ silence in the face of tyranny:
“If it were not for the presence of the present and the establishment of proof through the existence of supporters, and the covenant that God has taken from scholars not to remain silent in the face of oppressors and the oppressed, I would not have assumed this burden…”
The letter continues:
“Today, the duty of the scholars of the Ummah is to break the silence of the international community and the complicity of Islamic governments, and to raise a united voice in defense of the Palestinian people — to awaken those in power from their negligence and call them to fulfill their divine and human obligations.”
Condemnation and Call for Islamic Unity
Concluding its letter, the Society of Teachers of the Qom Seminary condemned what it termed a “great injustice” and urged Muslim scholars around the world to speak out, unite the Islamic Ummah, and break the silence surrounding Gaza’s suffering.
“Indifference to the divine command to help the oppressed is tantamount to disbelief.”
The statement ends with the Quranic warning:
“And those who have wronged are going to know to what [kind of] return they will be returned.” (Ash-Shu’ara: 227)
