Pakistani Senator warns of collapse of democracy

Senator Raja Nasir Abbas Jafari has stated in Media Crisis in Pakistan seminar, “Freedom of expression and independence of the basic institutions of a country are its pillars of stability; But in Pakistan, these pillars are collapsing one after another.”

The Chairman of Pakistan Muslim Unity Assembly Senator Raja Nasir Abbas Jafari has emphasized in the seminar “Media Crisis in Pakistan” organized by the Journalists’ Union that the executive branch, the legislature, the judiciary and the media are the four main pillars of the state. The independence and autonomy of these institutions is stipulated in the constitution, but now we are witnessing that these pillars are collapsing one after another.”

Regarding the situation of the Pakistani Parliament, he stated,” This parliament is not a true representative of the people, but an occupied parliament. In this parliament, people are forcibly kidnapped, disappear at night, and even their families are not aware who took them and why. In such circumstances, voting is carried out with threats and intimidation.”

Senator Raja Nasser has strongly criticized the state of the Pakistani judiciary, saying,” Today, our judicial system has suffered the fate of Palestine and occupied Kashmir. This important institution has lost its independence and has come under pressure and influence from special powers.”

He added that the increasing interference of unrelated institutions in judicial affairs has destroyed the independence of this institution.
