Hezbollah Condemns Assassination of Syrian Scholar Sheikh Rasoul Shahoud in Homs

Hezbollah has strongly condemned the assassination of prominent Syrian cleric Sheikh Rasoul Shahoud, who was martyred in a targeted attack in the suburbs of Homs. The Lebanese resistance movement described the incident as a heinous crime aimed at sowing division and sectarian strife in Syria.

In an official statement, Hezbollah expressed deep sorrow over the killing, attributing the crime to “traitorous hands” seeking to undermine the unity and stability of the Syrian nation. The group emphasized that such acts of violence serve only the interests of those who wish to ignite religious and sectarian tensions among the Syrian people.

“Sheikh Shahoud was a devoted religious scholar, an advocate of Quranic education, a supporter of youth in their spiritual and educational journey, and a steadfast voice for truth and justice,” the statement read. “His assassination is not only a loss for Syria but for all who strive for religious moderation and societal harmony.”

Call for Accountability

Hezbollah called on Syrian authorities and relevant institutions to urgently identify and prosecute those responsible for the attack, including any individuals found to be involved or complicit. The statement also urged academic, religious, and cultural institutions across the region to denounce the killing and stand united against extremist ideologies.

“We are fully confident,” Hezbollah added, “that the Syrian people will stand firm against the forces of extremism, and will remain committed to national unity, moderation, and enlightened thought.”

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the assassination.
