Baghdad – Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini, the representative of the Supreme Leader in Iraq, emphasized the critical role of Husseini culture in preserving the unity of the Islamic Ummah and revitalizing social engagement among religious scholars. Speaking at a gathering of missionaries and cultural activists from the World Assembly of Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT), he outlined the ideological and social responsibilities of today’s religious leadership in the face of contemporary challenges.
Imam Hussein: A Living Model of Resistance and Justice
Ayatollah Hosseini began his remarks by reflecting on the enduring message of Imam Hussein (PBUH), describing him as far more than a historical figure. “Imam Hussein is the ultimate symbol of sacrifice, resistance against tyranny, and the pursuit of justice,” he said. “Renewing our covenant with the Husseini culture is essential for building a just, resilient, and dynamic society capable of confronting the cultural and ideological offensives of our enemies.”
Defending Unity in the Face of Division
He warned that the enemies of Islam are actively working to fracture the unity of the Muslim Ummah through sectarian, ethnic, and political strife. “Today, the only viable path to preserving unity lies in the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT),” he asserted. “We must strengthen bonds of faith and cooperation across all Islamic communities.”
Iran as a Pillar of Islamic Identity and Resistance
Highlighting the strategic role of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ayatollah Hosseini stated: “Iran stands as a stronghold of Islamic identity and a beacon of resistance against global arrogance and Zionism. Guided by its pure values and wise leadership, Iran continues to uphold the banner of resistance and Islamic dignity. This responsibility now belongs to all of us—to remain vigilant and to support this path with sacrifice and determination.”
Confronting Intellectual Deviance and Preserving Authentic Teachings
The Supreme Leader’s representative also addressed the spread of ideological distortions, cautioning against modern efforts to undermine religious truth. “Today, defending the core teachings of Islam against eclectic and deviant movements is more urgent than ever. The enemies seek to sow doubt and division. Religious scholars must confront this with knowledge, spiritual insight, and unwavering faith.”
Scholars as Agents of Social Change
Ayatollah Hosseini emphasized that religious scholarship must go beyond theoretical discourse. “A true religious scholar is not just a thinker but an active agent of transformation,” he said. “Those who limit themselves to academic analysis without engaging in the social arena lack the spirit of religious commitment. We must embody the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT) not only in words but in action, as a roadmap for building a new Islamic civilization.”

He concluded by stressing the urgency of the current historical moment: “We are at a pivotal juncture. Through renewed allegiance to the culture of the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT), vigilance in the face of ideological attacks, and committed social engagement, we can pave the way for a united Islamic Ummah and lay the foundation for a new Islamic civilization.”
