Ayat. Arafi: Qom ‘standard-bearer of religious and national identity’

The Head of Iran’s Seminaries emphasized the unique position of Ashura in the history of Islam, considering it to go beyond all the wars of the early Islamic era, and urged the need to re-examine Ashura in accordance with the needs of the young generation.

Ayatollah Alireza Arafi, Head of Iran’s Seminary, in a meeting with members of the Khadem al-Reza Procession, referred to the high position of this religious gourp and its three-decade long activity in serving the Ahl al-Bayt (PBUT), and appreciated the efforts and struggles of the members of this group.

Stating that divine secrets lie in Ashura and the personality of Imam Hussein (PBUH), Ayatollah Arafi said,” The greatness of Ashura lies in this, which left a long-term and unique impact on the history of Islam and humanity in a very short period of time, and will remain the greatest event in history until the emergence of Imam Al-Mahdi (PBUH).”

The Head of Iran’s Seminary further noted,” Ashura was not just a confrontation between right and wrong, but an event full of divine knowledge and secrets that whoever is closer to it will benefit more from. He added,” Those who serve in religious organizations are closer to this spiritual and divine center and will benefit from its special blessings.”

Emphasizing the place of Ashura in the religious and national identity of Iranians, he said,” Ashura played a key role in the independence, dignity and greatness of the Islamic Republic of Iran and was an inspiration in the formation and continuation of the Islamic Revolution. The Islamic Revolution is a manifestation of Ashura and has sent its message to the whole world.”

The Head of Iran’s Seminary also pointed out the importance of the city of Qom and its identity and said,” Qom, with an ancient history, is a center of science and jurisprudence hosting the holy shrine of Hazrat Masoumeh, peace be upon her, and this historical heritage must be strengthened. The people of Qom are the main shareholders of this great capital, and the sense of belonging to the history and identity of Qom should be strengthened in religious and cultural programs.”

At the end, Ayatollah Arafi mentioned his personal experience during the month of Muharram in Africa, saying, “During one of my trips to Africa, I extracted more than a hundred lessons from Ashura for a speech, which shows the depth of the greatness of this great school.”
