MoRA Hosts Quran Tarannum Workshop in Preparation for National Recitation Competition

Brunei’s Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), through the Islamic Propagation Development Division, has organized the Quran tarannum workshop in conjunction with the National Final Adult Category Al-Quran Recitation Competition for 1447 Hijrah, which is scheduled to be held at the end of April.

A total of 12 participants from the upcoming competition, as well as several semi-finalists who obtained scores of 85 per cent and above in the male (qari) category and 80 per cent and above in the female (qariah) category, are taking part in the workshop.

The workshop serves as a platform for the nation’s qari and qariah to undergo face-to-face training with experienced and skilled instructors in the field of Quran recitation.

The participants have the opportunity to closely evaluate and enhance the quality of their recitation, while broadening their knowledge in tarannum and Quran studies.

The five-day workshop runs until tomorrow at the Multaqa Hall, Additional Building, MoRA.

It aimed to strengthen the quality of recitation among qari and qariah by introducing techniques and Quran melodies that are fresh and distinct from those commonly taught and presented in the Nusantara region. The workshop also assists in strengthening the quality of their recitation, particularly in aspects of Tajweed, fluency (fashahah), melody and voice control.

The participants are given the opportunity to identify their strengths and weaknesses in recitation, as well as to practice and refine their techniques for competition purposes in preparation for the national final.

This effort is intended to ensure that they are fully prepared to deliver their best recitations and present high-quality performances.

The workshop is conducted by invited instructor Che’ Yahaya bin Daud from Malaysia, who previously served as a judge for the National Final Adult Category Al-Quran Recitation Competition in Brunei in 2015.

It is hoped that such initiatives will continue to serve as a stronghold of faith and Islamic creed in empowering, strengthening and uniting future generations, so that they may truly understand, appreciate and practice the teachings of the Holy Quran in their daily lives.
