In a statement condemning the suicide bombing at the Khadija al-Kubra (SA) Grand Mosque in Islamabad during Friday prayers, Hojatoleslam Naqvi described the attack as a heinous and anti-human crime, urging the Pakistani government to move beyond symbolic condemnations and adopt concrete measures to dismantle extremist networks.
The attack, which killed dozens of worshippers and left many more injured, has sent shockwaves across Pakistan and the wider Muslim world. Naqvi said the massacre was not only an assault on innocent civilians but a direct attack on religious freedom, social stability, and national security.
Expressing deep sorrow over the martyrdom of worshippers and the suffering of the wounded, the Pakistani cleric stressed that such acts of brutality have plunged the entire Muslim Ummah into grief. “This cowardly and savage crime has wounded the conscience of humanity,” he said.
Security Failures Must Be Addressed
Naqvi pointed to serious security lapses, particularly in Islamabad, calling on relevant authorities to conduct an immediate and transparent investigation into the failures that allowed the attack to occur. He demanded that all perpetrators, facilitators, and those responsible for negligence be swiftly identified and brought to justice.
He also emphasized the urgent need for practical, effective, and sustainable security measures, especially to protect mosques, religious centers, and public gatherings, warning that continued inaction would only embolden extremist groups.
“The era of ceremonial statements and routine condemnations is over,” Naqvi said. “What Pakistan needs today are clear strategies, firm political will, and decisive action on the ground.”
Zero Tolerance for Takfiri Networks
Reiterating his call for an uncompromising response, Naqvi urged the government to impose a complete and enforceable ban on all Takfiri organizations, particularly in the capital, and to eradicate both their ideological and operational networks nationwide.
As the head of Jamia Urwatul Wuthqa Pakistan, he stressed that confronting extremism requires not only security operations but also dismantling the intellectual and financial structures that sustain Takfiri violence.
Naqvi concluded by asserting that terrorist attacks will never weaken the resolve of the Pakistani people. He called on the nation to respond with unity, awareness, and steadfastness, vowing that the plots of hostile elements would ultimately fail.
Offering condolences to the families of the martyrs and the injured, he prayed for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks, swift and complete recovery for the wounded, and patience and strength for the bereaved families.
