In a ceremony marking the occasion, the Iranian Cultural House in Mumbai signed a cultural and educational MoU with the Iranian Protection Association of Pune, aimed at expanding cooperation in Persian language education and cultural exchange. Under the agreement, the two sides will collaborate in organizing cultural festivals — including film, food, and handicrafts events — as well as Persian language courses and Iranology workshops.
Hassan Mohsenifard, Acting Head of the Consulate General of Iran in Mumbai, underscored the importance of preserving the Persian language among Iranians residing in India, describing it as a key element of cultural identity. Mohammad Reza Fazel, Iran’s Cultural Attaché and Head of the Cultural House, called the MoU an important step toward deepening joint activities between the two institutions.
In a separate meeting, the cultural cooperation agreement between the Iranian Cultural House in Mumbai and Deccan College Postgraduate and Research Institute in Pune was extended for the tenth consecutive year.
During the event, Deccan University President Professor Joshi welcomed the renewal, emphasizing continued collaboration in Persian language studies and proposing the establishment of a dedicated chair for Persian and ancient Iranian languages, including cuneiform and Avestan.
Mohsenifard described Persian as a shared cultural heritage linking Iran and India, while Fazel hailed the renewed partnership as a milestone in the two countries’ cultural engagement, reflecting their mutual commitment to broadening cooperation in education, language, and heritage.
