Tens of thousands participated in a massive demonstration in Berlin on Saturday under the banner “Stop the Genocide in Gaza.” Organizers estimated the number of participants at around 20,000.
The protesters carried Palestinian flags and placards calling for peace, expressing strong opposition to the continuation of the war and to arms deliveries to conflict zones.
Sahra Wagenknecht, a well-known German lawmaker and co-organizer of the rally, stressed in her remarks: “Nothing justifies the murder and bombing of the people of Gaza; every war is a crime”.
English musician Roger Waters, co-founder of the famous band Pink Floyd, also voiced his support for the Palestinian people in a video message.
In addition to condemning the Israeli attacks, the demonstration highlighted the urgent need to halt the shipment of weapons to war zones and called for renewed efforts toward a two-state solution in Palestine.
Meanwhile, a small group of pro-Israel supporters held a counter-demonstration elsewhere in the city.
