Speaking at Beirut International Airport, Sheikh Al-Khatib said his trip to Iran to attend the Conference on the Proximity of Islamic Denominations provided an opportunity to exchange views with Muslim leaders and Iranian officials on enhancing coordination among Islamic countries and scholars.
He emphasized the urgency of such coordination in light of recent Israeli attacks on Qatar and the ongoing massacres in Gaza. “The Doha conference should serve as a platform to strengthen Arab-Islamic relations and develop a collective strategy to confront the unbridled Israeli aggression,” he said.
Referring to regional developments, Sheikh Al-Khatib stressed that Israel does not adhere to international laws or agreements and continues to threaten Arab and Islamic nations, including Lebanon. He underlined the need for internal unity in Lebanon and across the Arab and Islamic world, urging all efforts to be directed toward a unified stance against Israel to protect the region.
The Lebanese Shiite leader expressed hope that the Doha summit would result in decisive and practical measures rather than mere statements, and that it would provide a basis for deterrent action against ongoing violence in Gaza.
