Hojatoleslam Shahabuddin Mashayekhi, continuing his sustained efforts to bolster solidarity within the Islamic Ummah, visited the historic Lalkuti Mosque in Dhaka, where he underscored the imperative of unity and fraternity among Islamic schools of thought. The visit, which took place at one of Bangladesh’s most significant religious centers, was warmly received by Sunni officials and worshippers alike and generated widespread resonance in the country’s religious circles.
Addressing the gathering, he pointed to the critical conditions confronting the Islamic world, asserting that the time has come to cast aside minor differences and place the foundational teachings of Islam — namely brotherhood and mutual respect — at the forefront.
Hojatoleslam Mashayekhi, who has a long record of attending numerous Sunni mosques, engaged with the questions posed by those present, transforming the atmosphere of dialogue into an opportunity to deepen friendship and peaceful coexistence.
The representative of Al-Mustafa University further elaborated on the common ground shared by all Muslims, stating that the enemies of Islam seek to exploit sectarian divisions to weaken the Ummah from within. He called upon religious scholars and community leaders across Bangladesh to serve as beacons of unity, urging them to promote a discourse of inclusion and mutual understanding in their respective communities.
“Today, the Islamic world faces unprecedented challenges — from cultural invasion to economic warfare and the desecration of sacred values,” Hojatoleslam Mashayekhi noted. “The only path to victory and dignity lies through unified ranks and a shared commitment to the principles of the Holy Quran and the noble example of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).”
Many observers and religious experts regard such sincere initiatives as a successful model for strengthening Shia-Sunni bonds across the subcontinent. Hojatoleslam Mashayekhi has for years played a pioneering role in the arena of cultural and religious diplomacy, working tirelessly to build bridges between the academic and religious institutions of Iran and Bangladesh and to deepen understanding between the Muslims of both nations.
Participants at the Lalkuti Mosque gathering expressed their appreciation for the visit, with several community elders describing it as a timely and powerful demonstration of Islamic brotherhood. They called for similar initiatives to be expanded across other regions of Bangladesh, emphasizing that such face-to-face engagements are essential for dismantling misconceptions and fostering a climate of trust and cooperation.
The event concluded with a collective prayer for the unity, prosperity, and strength of the global Muslim community.
