Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Second International Conference on Comparative Ethics in Islam and Christianity, organized by the Institute of Islamic Science and Culture, Rev. Kuznetsov described the conference as a “blessed opportunity” for the Russian Orthodox Church to deepen its understanding of Islam.
Pointing to shared moral challenges, including issues such as abortion, he said: “These challenges transcend geography and religion. Interfaith dialogue is essential to prevent contemporary society from drifting away from fundamental values under cultural and social pressures.”
Rev. Kuznetsov emphasized that cooperation between Islam and Christianity strengthens peaceful coexistence and fosters mutual understanding. He noted that the conference demonstrated the spiritual synergy achievable through dialogue, helping combat misunderstanding, distrust, and societal fragmentation.
Highlighting Russia’s multicultural and multi-religious society, Kuznetsov said Kazan exemplifies peaceful coexistence, with churches and mosques standing side by side and the sounds of bells and the call to prayer resonating together. “This shows the real possibility of understanding between religions,” he added.
He concluded that such interactions are not only instructive for religious leaders but also inspire ethical practices, as Islamic values provide lessons that can enrich Christian moral teachings and guide interfaith cooperation globally.
