Qom, Iran – In a strong response to recent threats made by the President of the United States and officials of the Zionist regime, Grand Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi has declared that any individual or regime that threatens or attacks the religious and political leadership of the Islamic world is to be considered a warlord. He emphasized that such actions constitute a direct assault on the sovereignty of the Islamic Ummah and must be met with resolute opposition from Muslims worldwide.
The comments came in reply to a written inquiry submitted by a group of Muslim believers, seeking religious guidance on how to respond to the explicit threats targeting Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and other senior Shiite authorities.
“Any person or regime that threatens the leadership and authority or compromises it in order to harm the Islamic Ummah and its sovereignty is considered a warlord,” Ayatollah Makarem stated in his official response. “Any cooperation or support for such a regime by Muslims or Islamic states is religiously forbidden.”
He further stressed the duty of Muslims across the globe to take a firm stance against such threats:
“All Muslims are obligated to make these enemies regret their threats and miscalculations. Should they face hardship or sacrifice in this cause, they will be rewarded as fighters in the path of God.”
The inquiry that prompted this statement referenced recent remarks made by U.S. officials and Zionist leaders, who have allegedly made public threats against the life of Grand Ayatollah Khamenei and other religious figures. The question asked for clarification on the Islamic ruling regarding such threats and the responsibilities of Muslims in defending their leadership.
Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi concluded his response with a prayer for divine protection and the hastening of the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (may God hasten his reappearance), reaffirming the spiritual resolve of the Islamic community.
“May God protect the Islamic nation from the evil of its enemies and hasten the reappearance of Imam Mahdi (PBUH).”
The statement by Grand Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi adds to a chorus of powerful reactions by senior Shiite clerics following perceived escalations from the United States and its allies, particularly concerning threats against the leadership and sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
